ANOREXIA - FINAL MAJOR PROJECT For my final major project I plan on researching 'anorexia' and how it changes peoples lives. Ive never really though about anorexia and why people are so anorexic but recently after watching a friend of mine suffer from it I have had so many questions running through my mind that are unanswered and the main one I'm still trying to figure out is 'why are there so many people suffering from anorexia?' I know that i will never quite find the answer because surely there's not an answer that can explain anorexia... otherwise we'd have a cure? However I am hoping to get just that little bit closer to understanding why.
For this project I have decided to go completely out of my comfort zone and produce a piece of work that will provide you with facts and figures about anorexia and sends a clear message to my audience. As soon as you look at it you instantly know what message I'm trying to show. I'm not too sure how i am planning on doing that but I have a few idea's in mind.
I had an idea that if i turned my project title into a question then at the end of my FMP, after I gained knowledge on my subject, I could try and answer that question.
I already have an idea to create two mood boards one for my research and one for my developmental work. I will start to add research and pictures on the 14th of March and finish just before I start my final piece. The two mood boards will just be samples as they will contain a lot of secondary research from magazines, newspapers and the Internet.
This project is going to be dark and disturbing so I dont intend on cutting out the horrific bits. I will be looking into the exact statistics on who anorexia affects and why it affects them. I think the media has a massive influence on people so i shall be researching into how celebs affect people so much now a day. I will also be researching into different type of foods, looking at the calories and saturated fat and I'll research research into why anorexic people sometimes feel 'disguisted' by themselves so they starve themselves of the nutrients and vitamins they need. I plan on getting my primary research by taking pictures of close friends with thin frames that can pose in different positions. But with doing this i will have to produce a consent form, which we can both sign so they know that the pictures will be edited in photoshop and Illustrator and then put in my sketchbook. I will draw from these pictures using different types of materials such as: charcoal; oil pastels; paint;pens and lead pencils.
I'll have 6 weeks to do my research but in that time most of the work will have to be created outside of college hours due to a trip to Amstedamn, Easter holidays and Assessment week.
It is important for me to evaluate my work throughout the project so later I can look back and figure out how much time i spent on each section and what I was thinking and feeling at the time. To make sure I am keeping on track, my work will be assessed each week by other learners and tutors and I will ask them if there are any area's that need improvement. I am hoping to evaluate throughout the project in order to avoid having to put together a complete evaluation from scratch at the end.
